Maria Rosa, Brea-Spahn, Ph.D. (she/her)
Dra. Maria Rosa Brea-Spahn is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders at New York University. She is a Dominican immigrant, bilingual (Español and English) communicator, a critical teacher-scholar whose work in the field of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences has been centered at the intersection of multilingualism and disability. Her current classroom and community collaborations focus on unveiling standardized language and ableist beliefs concealed in intervention materials and practices, sustaining variability in languaging in all communicators, and co-envisioning a path for linguistic liberation.
In her free time, Dra. Brea-Spahn may be found under a tree, nerding-out with a book, dancing bachata while cleaning her house, hiding behind a camera lens photographing sunrises, people, and places, and spending time with her family and kitties..
