Dr. Huseyin Uysal
Huseyin Uysal, PhD is a visiting assistant professor at the Department of Educational Studies at Knox College. He received his undergraduate degree in English Language Teaching from Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, and his master’s degree in Linguistics from Ankara University. He earned his PhD degree in Curriculum and Instruction (specializing in ESOL/Bilingual Education) from the University of Florida.
His scholarship focuses on identity, power, and inclusivity issues in linguistically and culturally diverse schools. His research interests include fairness, justice and equity in language assessment, English learner reclassification, and plurilingualism at rural schools. His work has appeared in venues such as TESOL Journal, TESOL Quarterly, Linguistics and Education, Peabody Journal of Education, and Journal of Education for Students Placed at Risk.
He is serving as the Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Education for Multilingualism, and the Associate Editor of Journal of Education, Language, and Ideology. Additionally, he is on the editorial board of multiple journals including INTESOL Journal, NABE Journal of Research and Practice, and Journal of Language and Literacy Education.
He is an active member of the American Educational Research Association, TESOL International Association, and American Association for Applied Linguistics, for which he organized multiple symposia and colloquia. He is also closely involved in the International Language Testing Association as the co-founder/co-chair of the Test-Taker Insights in Language Assessment Special Interest Group. Lastly, in this role as the co-chair of the Advocacy Committee, he is working with in-service ESL and bilingual teachers affiliated with Illinois Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages–Bilingual Education.
