About Us

The seeds for Inlier began in a classroom filled with students who had been in the country for less than two years. Dedicated and motivated, that class of newcomer students, many of whom had interrupted formal education smashed every negative narrative that existed. The areas in the larger education system that made it difficult for these students to receive continued support became obvious. It was in partnering directly with students and their communities to inform better intake, data collection, and curricular support that the idea for Inlier was born.

It would be a decade before Inlier would formally launch. While there was progress in the various sectors of education to better support immigrant origin youth, as a whole the structural barriers in the larger education system still needed dealing with. After tinkering and iterating with smaller solutions it was obvious this needed to be more all encompassing.

Inlier Learning is focused on building better identification and data systems for Newcomer learners and Students with “Limited” or Interrupted Formal Education. In 2021 Orly and Merary joined forces to build Abee, the first Newcomer and SLIFE asset based screening system.

Our Mission

Structural change and targeted support can empower students to participate in our world
in ways previously unavailable to them. We are committed to changing systems to function
more collaboratively in order to best support our students.

We believe that the roadmap to academic success begins with the identification process.
We support educational structures to identify and support their Newcomer and SLIFE
learners through asset based screening systems.
