Our advisory board is made up of nationally recognized individuals in the fields of education, psychology, and policy for immigrant origin children. Inlier Learning meets with the board regularly and seeks their input on a range of topics such as product development and current research and policy that impact multilingual learners.

Dr. Huseyin Uysal

Huseyin Uysal, PhD is a visiting assistant professor at the Department of Educational Studies at Knox College. He received his undergraduate degree in English Language Teaching from Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, and his master’s degree in Linguistics from Ankara University. Dr. Susana Ibarra Johnson

Susana Ibarra Johnson is an Assistant Professor of Bilingual Education and TESOL at New Mexico State University. She specializes in developing bi/multilingual and biliteracy curriculum, instruction, and assessment with bilingual/TESOL educators through participatory action research. Her research focuses on translanguaging pedagogy in bilingual education and English language development contexts to promote effective bilingual education instructional programs and materials for emergent bilingual student populations.



Dr. Kate Mahoney

Dr. Mahoney is a professor of TESOL and Bilingual Education at the State University of New York (SUNY) Fredonia. Dr. Mahoney earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction with a concentration in Bilingual Education from Arizona State University in 2003. Dr. Carola Suárez-Orozco

Dr. Carola Suárez-Orozco

Carola Suárez-Orozco is a Professor in Residence at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and the Director of the Immigration Initiative at Harvard. She is also the co-founder of Re-Imagining Migration. Dr. Sofia Chaparro

Sofía Chaparro is an Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado Denver, where she teaches in the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education program at the School of Education and Human Development. Her research investigates how race and class influence ideologies of language development and bilingualism, as well as the rise of two-way immersion bilingual programs in urban contexts. Her work was been funded by the Spencer Fellowship Foundation/National Academy of Education and the Ford Fellowship Foundation. She obtained her PhD in Educational Linguistics from the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania. A former bilingual elementary teacher, she is originally from the border between the United States and Mexico, from the west Texas town of El Paso. 


Dr. Susan Lyons

Dr. Susan Lyons is the owner and Principal Consultant at Lyons Assessment Consulting. Her firm is a leader in supporting innovation in educational assessment and school accountability, working closely with clients across the country to transform traditional assessment systems to better serve all students. Dr. Lyons began her career in the classroom as a seventh-grade math teacher in Quito, Ecuador. In addition to her consulting work, Dr. Lyons is a part-time faculty member at Boston College and is the Executive Director of a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing gender and racial equity in educational measurement, Women in Measurement.
